May 2014 Alberta Library Conference Many thanks again to the Athabasca County Library Board for sending me to the Alberta Library Conference at the end of April in Jasper. The key note speakers were incredible. We heard Neil Pasricha speak about his books about “AWESOME”. Neil started the blog to help himself out of a dark period of his life. In February, we will be hosting a Winter Reading Program again. On January 29, we will be sending reading logs sent home with all the students. Please keep track of all minutes read by your child in the month of February. Any student who reads a minimum of five hours will have their name entered into a draw by the Northern Lights Library System for a KOBO reader. January 2013 News

January 2013 Well, the old year has been put to rest and a bright, shiny New Year is upon us. To summarize 2012: We had a very well attended Winter Reading Program in February. Half the students took part in the Reading Log Challenge reading over 111 hours. Our Community Input session had in May had a fabulous turn out. NEWS- Local libraries looking for input April 25, 2012– Three libraries in Athabasca County need your help. Each is seeking the public’s input into the services they offer their respective communities. The libraries of Grassland, Wandering River and Rochester will be hosting public meetings to identify and define how each facility should meet residents’ needs. We have two exciting events planned for February and March. The first is a series of Meet and Greets with political candidates for the Athabasca-Redwater constituency. There is rumor of a provincial election being called sometime this spring. So we have invited all candidates for all parties to have Meet and Greet at their convenience. April 2012 News

Winter Reading Program: We had excellent participation with our Winter Reading Program Reading Log. We had 11 students turn in their logs for a total of 111 hours read in the month of February. All 11 had their names entered into the Northern Lights Library System Kobo draw. Unfortunately, none of our student’s names were drawn. Great reading everyone! Meet and Greets with local Political Candidates

Upcoming Programs

Well what a busy week?!?!?! I found out on Monday that there is a published author that has recently moved to our community.  I am hoping he phones me soon so we can arrange a "MEET THE LOCAL AUTHOR" evening.  I am keeping his name under wraps until I have his permission.  Also in the works is a "Local Politican" meet and greet.  I am hoping to get our Athabasca County rep, Jack Dowhaluck and possibly our reeve, David Yurdiga to join us on a Tuesday e... New School Year Upon Us

The new school year is upon us and with that, the library has returned back to it's regular hours.  Our hours are:  Mondays from 10 AM - 2 PM  Tuesdays from 3 - 8 PM. Our new shelving is in place and we are working diligently to get our many new titles on the shelves. WHAT A GREAT DAY!

What a fabulous day for our library! I went to the Library Sale that the wonderful folks at the Lac La Biche Library was holding.  They are in the process of moving into their fabulous new facility at the Bold Center and were selling off surplus goods.  They had shelving, furniture, chairs, garbage cans, book ends.. oh yeah some books too.
